Mississauga Garden Festival
Sun, 24 June, 10am to 4pm, Riverwood Conservancy. - 4300 Riverwood Park Lane Mississauga. The Second Annual Mississauga Garden Festival featuring The Gardens of Credit Woodlands. A paid tour of private gardens is the highlight of this years Mississauga Garden Festival but at its centrepiece are the free family-oriented activities at The Riverwood Conservancy Mississaugas unique 60-hectare 150-acre nature park on the banks of the historic Credit River. Riverwood has a rich geological history of ancient seas and glacial events and a fossil record that dates back 415 million years. Not quite a century ago it was the site of a beautiful stone summer home that still stands on the property plus a farm and a pickle processing facility. It features regular bird treks wildflower walks and indigenous days. An artisan marketplace food vendors children’s activities and talks-the popular Paul Zammit appears again this year-are some of the festival events. Tours of the Riverwoods MacEwan Terrace Gardens and the Enabling Garden are also included. The private gardens on the paid self-guided tour include ravine gardens woodland and naturalized gardens that reflect the area plus imaginative front yard gardens and spectacular outdoor living areas. The Cloverleaf and Applewood garden clubs have been joined this year by the Credit Valley Horticultural Society to present the annual Festival. FrancoFest Hamilton
June 22 & June 23, Gage Park (Gage Ave. S. & Main St. E., Hamilton). ‘Free’ Admission. FrancoFest Hamilton, the largest festival of arts and culture on the Niagara Peninsula, kicks off the summer festival season by celebrating the free spirit of the francophone culture! The 2018 edition will feature the performances of more than a dozen renowned artists and a host of free family-friendly shows and activities in the beautiful historic Gage Park. A one of a kind festival in Hamilton, FrancoFest 2018 will present two days of exceptional French programming. Acrobat, juggler and magnificent world-famous clown Jamie Adkins will present a gem of a show for the whole family under the big top. He is well identified as one of Canada's most talented contemporary circus performers. On the main stage, we will see well-known francophone artists including Claude Bégin, Le Couleur, Céleste Lévis, Jacobus, Les Hôtesses d'Hilaire, Ariko, Billy Love Band, Bonsa and Montreal's Le Winston Band. There will also be a unique symphonic presentation combining Moonfruits' haunting harmonies with award-winning singer-songwriter Le R Premier and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra quartet. Festival-goers will be able to stroll among the many kiosks of craft sellers and enjoy a pavilion of French world flavours. For the youngest, the FrancoFest has designed a family zone where children can enjoy a variety of fun activities, including games, crafts and face painting, all in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Indigenous Arts Festival
June 21 to 24, Fort York National Historic Site - 250 Fort York Blvd. The Indigenous Arts Festival is an annual celebration of traditional and contemporary Indigenous music, dance, theatre, storytelling, film, crafts and food. This year, in partnership with APTN, Fort York hosts the Indigenous Day Live concert and broadcast, as well as the Na-Me-Res Annual Traditional Pow Wow on Saturday, June 23. Additional mainstage performances in partnership with the Red Ride Tour will take place on Sunday, June 24. On June 21 and 22, Indigenous Education Days will feature traditional drumming, dancing, and storytelling offered free to school children of all ages (registration details coming soon). The Indigenous Arts Festival is produced by the City of Toronto in partnership with the Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation.
