Building Waterloo Walking Tour 5: ‘Modern Waterloo’
Aug 4, 3pm to 4pm, 75 King Street South, Waterloo. With the Mayor at the controls, on June 15 1960 a huge excavating machine dug the first shovel of ground for Waterloo Square. ‘‘In one strike the shopping centre will advance the heart of the city by 50 years,’‘ said Mayor James Bauer. Festival of Friends
Aug 2 to Aug 4, 1000 Main Street E, Hamilton. The Festival of Friends is Hamilton's long-running, legendary summer festival with two live music stages featuring well-known Canadian acts, plus art, crafts, and food trucks in Gage Park. Admission to the festival is free to everyone. This year's musical acts include American country star Tanya Tucker headlining a country-themed Saturday, with opening act Ben and Noel Haggard, performing the songs of their late father, country legend Merle Haggard. Friday will be rock-oriented, with Hamilton-based hitmakers the Trews headlining and Juno-nominated rockers Bleeker opening. Scarborough Ribfest
Aug 2 to Aug 5, Thomson Memorial Park - North East Corner Brimley Road and Lawrence Avenue. Friday, Aug 2 to Aug 4, 11am - 11pm; Monday, Aug 5, 11am to 08pm; Entertainment stops at 10pm. Presented by: The Rotary Club of Scarborough. Scarborough Ribfest is an annual festival and fundraiser. All moneys raised by the Rotary Club of Scarborough are donated to charitable projects in Scarborough and around the world. Ribfest will have 10 incredible Ribbers, 20 other food vendors, a Midway and 50 crafters and vendors. Beer, coolers, pop, juice and water will be available. Buy a 50/50 ticket. Last year's winner took home over $10,000.00. This is bound to create lots of excitement. A winner will be announced on Monday evening at 8:30pm.
