Sudden Death
Jan 23 to Feb 2, The Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts - Warnock MacMillan Theatre, 36 King St W, Kitchener. Tue-Sat 7:30pm, Sat 2pm, Sun 4pm. From award-winning playwright Charlotte Corbeil-Coleman (2019 Dora Award for Guarded Girls) comes a play about late NHL Enforcer, John Kordic and the demons he battled. Kordic was an NHL ‘‘enforcer’‘ often labelled a ‘‘goon’‘ for the Montreal Canadians and Maple Leafs in the late 80’s and early 90’s. He struggled with violence, fame, alcohol, drugs, and overdosed at age 27 in a hotel room after an altercation with police. Structured in 3 periods and set in a fantastical world that feels part seedy hotel room and part hockey rink, Sudden Death is a supernatural exploration of Kordic on his last day alive as he attempts to reconcile with his girlfriend Cindy, is haunted by people from his life who materialize from the walls, while 2 sportscasters give a play-by-play of his final tragic day. Online admission: $30 General Admission, $22 Students/Seniors (65+); At the door: $35 General Admission, $26 Students/Seniors. For more information, please visit ticketscene.ca/series/769
