Sept 13 to Sept 16, New Hamburg Fairgrounds - 251 Jacob Street, New Hamburg. Gather up your family and come out to discover your country roots at the 2018 New Hamburg Fall Fair. The theme for this year’s Agricultural Fair is ‘‘Proud of Our Past, Poised For the Future’‘! New this year on Friday night will be the Big Creek Tractor Pullers, so come out and cheer on the drivers. Along with this, we'll have all the favourites back too. Toonie rides and admission on Thursday, and ride to your hearts content with midway passes on Saturday and Sunday with Townsends Amusements, our livestock competition. horse shows, Home Craft exhibits, demolition derbies (Saturday night and Sunday afternoon), and our Ambassador of the Fair competition on Friday night. We are bringing back the well received petting zoo and play area, along with some new events for the ultimate family fun! We encourage the young and old alike to check out the prize list, and bring your own baking, crafts, flowers, photographs and so much more to enter into the Home Craft competition. 33rd Annual Orchid Show & Sale
Coming Soon…Sept 22 & Sept 23, Hespeler Arena - 640 Ellis Rd, Cambridge. The annual COOS Orchid Show and Sale will be held at the Cambridge Memorial Arena. On Saturday, the show is open from 11am to 5pm, and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm. COOS, which covers primarily Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph, is a local non-profit organization of orchid enthusiasts, from novice to expert! Orchids are one of the largest families of flowering plants in the world, with up to 26,000 accepted species across 880 genera: more than double the number of bird species, and more than four times the number of mammal species globally. In addition, there are millions of hybrids! Orchids can be found on all continents except Antarctica: from the frozen tundra of Alaska to the rainforests of Brazil, Indonesia, and the Congo. Many will be on display and even more for sale at the COOS show this fall. COOS meets monthly throughout the year in Kitchener. These meetings include invited speakers, who give talks on all aspects of orchids, member orchid sales, a show table, and orchid growing supplies. Experienced members are always willing to share tips, tricks, and advice on orchid care and cultivation. Wilmot Wild Chili Cookoff,
Coming Soon…Sept 23, 11am - 7pm, Descendants Beer & Beverage Co., 319 Victoria St N., Kitchener. For those who enjoyed our fundraiser in February this will be set up exactly the same but will be precluded by a Chili Cook Off! Here's how it will work. If you want to enter your amazing chili you can for an entry fee. Then, tasters (major fundraiser participants and others) will sign up to taste your chili prior to the major fundraiser (11am-1pm) and the cast their votes for their favourite. The chili with the most votes will win a cash prize! The major fundraiser (12:30pm registration – 1pm start time) will be run the exact same with a $50 presale ticket or a $60 at the door entry. Guelph Jazz Festival
Sept 12 to Sept 16, Market Square, Guelph. The Guelph Jazz Festival was founded in 1994 by Ajay Heble and a group of friends who shared a love of jazz and a commitment to Guelph. The Festival has consistently been praised by local, national, and international critics for its programming. The festival has commissioned several large-scale works including Passages, a multimedia opera by Jesse Stewart and based on poetry by Paul Haines; Québécité, with music by D.D. Jackson and libretto by George Elliott Clarke; and In Place of Wishes written by Robert Pennee with music by a quintet of improvisers. 2018 marks the Festival’s 25th Anniversary. RBC Race for the Kids
Sept 15, 6am - 12pm, Mel Lastman Square - 5100 Yonge St, North York. You can step forward for youth mental health by participating in the RBC Race for the Kids! Did you know that 1.2 million young Canadians struggle with mental health issues, such as anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, depression and addiction but only one in five will get the specialized treatment they need? Join us for a 5k walk, 7K run, or 15K race. With your help the Family Navigation Project at Sunnybrook will assist more young people find the mental health care they so desperately need. Register today! Start times: 15K - 7:30am; 7K - 8am; 5K - 8:45am. Register as an individual or as part of a team with family and friends. There’s no registration fee to participate in the RBC Race for the Kids. We do, however, suggest a fundraising minimum of $100 for adult participants aged 18 and above, $40 for youth aged 10-17, and $20 for children under the age of 10. Of course, we'll be so happy if you surpass these suggested minimums! The more raised, the more youth can find the mental health support they need. Register early! Every year this event sells out.
