EVENTS

Walk Ways

Saturday, Jun 14 2003 to Sunday, August 17, 2003
Gairloch Gardens - 1306 Lakeshore Rd. E.
The social history of walking includes many kinds of people and different reasons for why they walked: the peripatetic philosophers of ancient Greece, the melancholy Romantic poets, religious pilgrims, protest marchers, the solitary flâneur of the city, and the hiker communing in the wilderness. Walk Ways brings together works by nineteen contemporary artists who view walking as an activity that unites bodily and mental freedom. Inspired by their own experiences as well as by rich examples from literature and art history, these artists have created art about walking‹some even made by the action of walking‹that explore notions of work, leisure, politics, geography, and identity. Call (905) 844-4402 with questions.

PLANT: A Conversation of Views

Thursday, May 1 2003 to Saturday, November 01, 2003
Gairloch Gardens - 1306 Lakeshore Rd. E.
The summer months will see an under-used and much neglected part of Gairloch Gardens transformed into a site for observation and contemplation. This space will be activated by PLANT, a collaborative architecture, landscape and design team from Toronto. Over the last few years, using a cross-disciplinary approach, they have been examining ways in which to create a lively dialogue between viewer, built form and landscape. Call (905) 844-4402 with questions.
